在英语课堂活动中,很多学生要么不敢开口,要么一开口便是“My English is very poor.(我的口语很差)”。影响口语表达的原因很多,其中之一便是对常用词的用法不太熟悉。以英语为母语的本土人也不见得有多大的词汇量。所以,英语口语的提升,不在于量,而在于用。如下便是是几个常见词的不常见用法。
Example one: run (常见用法:跑步)
A run(一连串好运) of good luck
A run on the dollar(抢购美元)
A chicken run(养鸡场)
Shall I run you home? (我开车送你回家好吗?)
He was very different from the general run of American movie stars.(他和一般美国影星有很大的区别。)
In the normal run (正常情况下,他的惟一运动就是上下出租车。)of things, the only exercise he gets is climbing in and out of taxis.
Example two: Take(常用作:拿走)
Take(12减5,剩7.) 5 from 12 and you‘re left with 7.
What size shoes do you take? (你穿多大号的鞋?)
How many subjects are you taking this year? (你今天修多少门课?)
I took to my new boss immediately. (我立刻对新老板产生了好感。)
Ok, so you had a bad day. Don’t take (好,这么说你今天遇上了很多倒霉事。可也别拿我当出气筒。)it out on me.
Example three: minute(常用意:分钟)
37 degrees 30 minutes (37度30分)
Who is going to take the minutes? (谁来做会议记录?)
The kitchen on the boat is minute. (小船上的厨房小极了。)
A minute examination(细致的检查)
I don’t think for a minute that she‘ll accept but you can ask her. (我认为她绝不会接受,但你可以问问她。)
Example four: leave 常用作:离开某地)(
Leave the door open, please. (请把门开着吧。)
Don’t leave any of your belongings behind.(别忘了带上自己的随身物品。)
Leave go of my arm—you‘re hurting me! (放开我的手臂—你把我弄痛了。)
To take a month’s paid leave(带薪休假一个月)
We will never agree, so let’s just leave it at that. (咱们不可能意见一致,所以这事就这样吧。)
英语口语的好坏直接影响课堂活动的质量,从而直接影响正常的教学流程,所以,同学们应该平时留意常见词的其他用法,并坚持多听多练。
